What is the difference between a HOTEL and a MOTEL?

I have just always wondered what the difference is because they serve the same purpose

several good answers. Motels are generally one night or maybe two nights stop over on a journey by car, you can usually park right outside your room. Hotels may have more luxury and usually you go thorough the hotel to get in or out

A motel is a motor hotel, which was developed in the early days of the automobile as a place for automobile travelers to stay and is therefore generally located near major roads rather than in the center of a city or railway, as a hotel would be.

Motels would often be organized around the parking lot or "motor court." A motel generally will not have full hotel services, such as a formal restaurant. The doors of the rooms will generally open to the outdoors rather than an interior hallway.

Well, in my country, (Puerto Rico) Hotels are for tourists or locals who want to spend a good time, with pools etc, a hotel. Now, a Motel. people, especially men, use to take their girlfriends there to have sex, or ppl cheating on their spouse also use motels. Thats how it usually is in PR lol

Hotel start with H ..Motel start with M hahahahahahah

Hotel: when you leave your room you are in a hall

Motel: when you leave your room you are outside
