May I know what is the main difference between Youth Hostel and Motel?

A motel is basically a hotel that has lower rates and external doors to each room, so that you can park your vehicle outside your door and enter your room without entering through a main lobby. You have a private room, with your own bathroom.

A youth hostel sometimes has private rooms but often has dormitories where there are several beds in each room. The rates are usually very affordable and there's typically a common area with couches and a kitchen. Bathrooms are often communal.

A hostel is a more cooperative environment, where you typically (but not always) share accommodations in a room with several other people. Often you can't access the room during the day, and you will be sharing a bathroom with several other people.

The upside is that unlike a motel, you meet lots of cool travelers from all over the world. I stayed in one for a week and had a blast. It was MUCH less expensive, too. Also, you don't have to be young to stay in a hostel.

A motel is a hotel located near a highway or major road. It has rooms just like in any other hotel.

A youth hostel is a place open to young people only up to the age of 25 (with a few exceptions to this rule in some of them). They are much cheaper than regular hotels. There are dormitories and sometimes a few double rooms too. They are usually located in city centers, for young travelers to be able to travel for cheap. They are usually very international so it's a great way of meeting young people from other countries.

A Youth Hostel takes in young people as they walk in. The cost may be as close to free as you can get, and is payable up front. There are private bathroom facilities which are available when not being used by someone else. Sometimes sleeping areas are in an open room shared by others, and you don't always get the same sleeping area each night. Most travellers keep their personal belongings in a backpack which they take with them wherever they go. I think you get the idea.

A Motel has a private room reserved entirely for your private use while staying there. You can pay up front or at the end of your stay. You have a key to the room, and a maid is entrusted (bonded) not to disturb your personal belongings. You can leave your toothbrush, soap, and deodorant on the bathroom shelf, etc. I think you get the idea.

Motels are generally less than 4 floors tall, and Hotels are generally 5 floors or more.

A youth hostel is more like dormitory living and you may have to support your stay by performing chores to keep the place clean in addition to a very low cost for staying.
