Could a minor get a motel with a friend that's 18?

I'm planning a road trip next year. My friend will be 18, & we're planning on going to Canada. I know all the things I have to have to go to Canada. I'm wondering, if my friend is 18 & if we're in Canada, could she rent a room & would I be able to stay with her as a minor? I heard that if someone's 18 or older when you enter Canada, they're considered a temporary guardian for the time being. If this is the case, do you think we would have difficulties getting a room?

Anytime I got a hotel room they never really asked about my guest...
