And also how can I find a not expensive but safe hotel/motel in Singapore? I will travel on my own, so safety is really important.
Thank you everyone, and have a happy new year ^__^
Looks like you will need a visa to get out of the airport for a few days - check the Singapore Consulate websites:

http://www.mfa.gov.sg/ under 'Consular Information' Tab
Visa application link - http://app.mfa.gov.sg/generator/asppages/canberra/cs-visa-level1.asp
Many countries do not need a visa except a few 30 countries like China and India require a Visa to enter Singapore...
No, you don't need a visa if you are a citizen of Australia. But, yes you do need a visa if you are citizen of China
You don't need visa to visit Singapore according Singapore imomigration website. Try VIP hotel. It's in a very nice area and costs about U.S$70 a night.
hi, maybe you can try check about the visa with the Singapore immigration, as for accommodation, you can go to 88db website and find list of affordable hotels and hostels, like the YMCA IH which is located right in the heart of Singaporeâ™s shopping, tourist and entertainment centre, and you can also try Bugis backpackers....
enjoy your stay in Singapore~
There are some good tips here and i think that you'll have no probs with safety. Singapore is very safe, so long as you are sensible.
Try this for reputable hotels, motels and youth hostels - all are part of a very large network of contracted hotels and need to meet standards to be in the system.

As for hotel, can stay at Hotel81 chain of hotels. But avoid geylang and Joo Chiat area, as its more of red light district area. In case you feel uncomfortable with men staring at you.
Chinatown area got quite a number of small hotels you can try. And easy access to city area.
