Are you able to book a hotel/motel and then have a minor check in/check out?

Well, a few friends and I are deciding to go to a music venue soon and well we are all 17 but can't legally get a hotel/motel ourselves. Basically, we need a motel but due to us being minors we can't get a room, but is it true that I can't at all get a room unless I am of age and I have a legal aged person with me.

What you want to do is against the law. Seriously, someone of age COULD book a room and you and your friends take it over but the person who booked the room is completely and totally responsible for any and all damages that you and your friends create. I was a manager once of a group of young'ens and even though they were not of legal age - being their representative, I had to be in at least one of the rooms as a legal 'guardian'. Some of their parents also had to stay in the additional rooms.

Additionally, it is just not wise to have an adult sign their name to be responsible for not only the room - but the people who are in the room. Too many bad things can happen from what might appear to be a good idea.

Please rethink your plans and if you still need the rooms - have an adult be there with you. Safer for everyone in the long run.

I believe you have the correct information. Hotels are similar to car rentals where you have to be 18 or older, some states 21. Now if you were traveling say to Mexico over Spring Break you would be able to find accomodations for minors but it requires cash and or credit card deposits from your parents to cover any damages. In the US as a minor you cannot be legally held accountable for charges and or damages to the hotel therefor the hotels will not let a minor checkin without an adult. Maybe if you tried a small motel type setting you could find somewhere but I am sure going to a music venue those types of places may not be readily available. You will have to show a vaid id/dl upon check-in.
